How to Perform a Reverse Image Search on Your iPad

Ever seen a bug crawling and want to know what it is but don’t know how to describe it? Or have you ever noticed a beautiful flower growing on a tree and wanted to identify it? The reverse image is a handy dandy tool that allows you to do just that plus more. In fact, many photographers utilize the tool to make sure that their photographs are not stolen or being used without their permission.

Conducting a reverse image search on your iPad is quick and easy. If you have never used the tool before, this guide will help you. So, if you are out and about and you notice something you want to know the name of, simply grab your iPad, snap a pic, and find out!

How to Use Google Reverse Image Search on Your iPad

When you conduct a reverse image search, you will be presented with a myriad of results from directly related images of the object to similar images and even websites that contain the image. Therefore, if you were to reverse search a cockroach, you would find pictures of the one you search, similar ones, and even a pest control website or two that has a picture of a roach on it. These results are designed to help you identify whatever it is you are looking at and provide you with information about it.

Performing a reverse search is quite simple and only takes a couple of minutes to do.

Image from the Image Search Results

  • Open up your Safari or Chrome application on your iPad
  • Head to images.google.com and type in an image keyword in the box
  • Click on the image that you want and then tap on the Google Lens icon at the top right corner of the screen
  • Utilize the onscreen prompts and editor to adjust the location and size of the image you chose and make sure to center the editor on the details you want to search for
  • Get your results instantly

Tip: if you are using the Chrome application, you are able to search for images by tapping and holding your finger down on the image itself and waiting for a couple of seconds. A prompt will pop up with additional selection options and you can click on search Google for this image. This feature works for both gifs and images.

  • Open up the Google app on your iPad and click on the Google Lens icon located on the search bar to the right
  • Take a photo in real-time or upload a previously taken photo from your camera roll (to take a photo, simply click on the camera icon and follow the prompts. To upload a photo, you will need to allow the application to access your photo album)
  • Once you have the item you want to search in view on the app, click on the shutter button. You will need to drag the corners of the box and adjust the size of the image and place the detail(s) you want to be searched in the box.
  • After you have made the box around the main details you want to search, Google lens will look up the results and provide you with them

Third-Party Options

While using Safari or Google Chrome yields quick results, there are third-party applications that allow you to conduct reverse image searches. Unlike the latter options, third-party applications search more than just the Google database.
